In an interview with Folha de S. Paulo, our partner Ana Cláudia Utumi spoke about the tax reform regulation bill approved by the Senate.
Ana says that the changes were relatively modest compared to the supplementary bill passed by the House in July, without altering the general lines of the proposal. For her, from the point of view of taxpayers, the reform makes the Brazilian tax system better than the current one, but it won’t be a simple system.
“I’m no longer going to have 27 state legislations, 5,000 and so many municipalities, federal PIS/Cofins legislation. I’m bringing the whole world under one umbrella. There are some differences between IBS and CBS, but basically the same rules,” he says. “But the rules as they stand are far from simple. You can’t say that our system is the European system.”
