Our lawyer Ilse Salazar Andriotti spoke with CNN Brasil Money about the operation carried out by the São Paulo State Finance and Planning Secretariat, which recovered R$ 210 million in ICMS (state value-added tax) from distributors classified as habitual debtors. The action was considered by the fuel sector as pioneering in the fight against tax evasion.

According to the report, tax evasion and other operational frauds hinder legal competition in the sector. Ilse explained that “regular taxpayers end up having to reduce their profit margin in an attempt to compete with the prices charged by taxpayers who evade taxes.”
