Brazil’s newspaper Valor Econômico has published an article about a study conducted by our firm showing that most countries in the world charge consumption tax on goods and services, and almost all members of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) require Value Added Tax (VAT).

The newspaper also talked with our partner Ana Cláudia Akie Utumi, who highlighted the case of India, which recently went through a tax reform and improved its complex system with the institution of VAT.

“In the case of India, the tax burden does not reach 20% of the GDP, while in Brazil it exceeds the 30% barrier. With the new taxation, after the reform, the country’s tax collection grew even with the covid-19 pandemic.”
